About Matthew

Matthew Della Camera earned his Master’s of Music from the University of Oklahoma in 2019 and a Bachelor’s of Music in Applied Music Performance and Music Education from Ithaca College in 2017. In his youth, he studied Euphonium with James Jackson III, was a member of the Hartt Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble studying under Glen Adsit, and played Bass Trombone with the University of Connecticut Jazz Lab Band under the direction of John Mastroianni and Earl MacDonald. While at the University of Oklahoma he studied under Brian Dobbins and while at Ithaca College, he studied with Aaron Tindall and Justin Benavidez. He was fortunate to participate in Master Classes with world-renowned artists including Oystein Baadsvik, Steven and Misa Mead, Roger Bobo, Seth Horner, and Scott Devereaux. He continued his jazz studies at both OU and Ithaca as a member of the Jazz Ensembles (tenor, bass trombone, and tuba). He remains classically trained in euphonium.

Matthew was honored to participate in the 2014 International Tuba & Euphonium Conference as a Rich Matteson Jazz Competition finalist. He was privileged to be a member of the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Jazz Orchestra for the 2016 (alternate) and 2017 (bass trombonist) seasons. He was actively involved in various ensembles during his time at OU and IC while continuing to provide private euphonium and trombone instruction. His Graduate Assistantship included low brass classroom and lesson instruction. He was a member of the OU Wind Symphony and the OU Jazz Ensemble.

About

Matthew Della Camera began his musical endeavors on piano at age six, the baritone horn at age 9, and trombone at age 14. During his early years he was an active member in school symphonic bands, low brass ensembles, and chamber quartets.  During high school he was a member of the University of Hartford Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble studying under Glen Adsit, and the University of Connecticut Jazz Lab Band under the direction of John Mastroianni and Earl MacDonald.

Matthew was selected to the Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) All-State Band on euphonium in both 2011 and 2013, the CMEA Eastern Regional High School Music Festival Band on euphonium in 2010, 2011, and 2013, and was awarded principal trombone for the CMEA Eastern Regional High School Music Festival Jazz Ensemble in 2012.

He has played trombone for community pit orchestras as well as for the Connecticut Youth Symphony’s Video Game Live performance at The Bushnell in Hartford Connecticut in 2013. In April 2013 Matthew was a semi-finalist in NERTEC, placing 2nd in the Euphonium High School Competition. He pursued his studies at Ithaca College. He was a finalist in the ITEC 2014 Rich Matteson Jazz Competition. He has performed for master classes with Oystein Baadsvik, Seth Horner, Steven Mead, Justin Benavidez, and Roger Bobo. Matthew earned a Bachelor of Music in Applied Music Performance and Music Education from Ithaca College School of Music, studying with Aaron Tindall and Justin Benavidez. He continued jazz studies as a member of the Ithaca College Jazz Ensemble throughout his time there. He is now enrolled in the University of Oklahoma, working as a graduate assistant in the Catlett School of Music, under the tutelage of Brian Dobbins.
